Joshua Abraham Getman (b.1993) is a Composer, Producer, and Sound Designer based in New York. His career began at age 13 when he signed up for middle school concert band having never before picked up an instrument. A week later, he bought his first bass and began teaching himself how to play and compose. Four years later, he was studying composition, working as a freelance bassist and regularly performing in every style in over 10 ensembles, both in and out of school. By the age of 18 he had been accepted into Juilliard’s composition program, where he graduated with Scholastic and Artistic Distinction in 2016. Since then, Joshua has received his Master’s Degree, also from Juilliard, and written multiple large

orchestral works, chamber pieces, and projects for the recording studio. In 2018, Josh scored the short film Elephants Purr Like Cats Do, which was screened at the Keylight LA Festival, and the digital-mini series First Lady Problems, currently streaming on Revry. In 2019, Josh began working for the sonic branding agency Man Made Music and is currently a freelance audio editor and composer for them. Recent compositional work includes the premiere of a chamber opera Oedipus in the District at the Armenian National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet. A two-act evening-length version of Oedipus in the District is in development for 2020, with premieres in London and Armenia.
